Manchester United striker Joe Hugill is set to join Burton Albion on loan in the January transfer window. The 20-year-old is poised to join the League One side on a temporary deal until the end of the season, having been promised a loan move as part of his new contract at the club.
Hugill signed a new contract until 2026, with the option of an additional year, on Wednesday and is shortly expected to depart the club for the remainder of the campaign.
Burton sit 17th in League One and are just five points above the relegation places in the division. It means the United striker is set for a valuable experience in professional football, regardless of how much time he gets on the pitch.

Hugill has been named on the United bench four times this season but has yet to make his senior debut for the club. He was an unused substitute for United's FA Cup third-round win against Wigan Athletic earlier this week.
He gained valuable experience on loan at National League side Altrincham a year ago and netted a fine goal for United in their opening pre-season victory over Leeds United in Oslo.
Hugill joined the United academy from Sunderland in 2020 for £300,000 and he was part of the squad that won the FA Youth Cup in 2022. He has netted seven goals in the Premier League 2 this season.
