Jordan Henderson's controversial move to Al-Ettifaq won't impact his place in the England squad after receiving assurances from Three Lions boss Gareth Southgate.
The Liverpool skipper is set to complete the switch to the Saudi Pro League after agreeing a staggering £700,000-a-week deal that would see him link up with former Reds team mate Steven Gerrard.
He flew to Croatia on Wednesday to complete formalities following the agreement of a £12m fee, and was even pictured training with the Saudi side before the move has even been announced.
A crucial factor for Henderson was whether he would continue to be considered for England selection - as he would hope to be in contention for Euro 2024.
The 33-year-old held discussions with Southgate when the bid first came to light, and the Three Lions boss confirmed in those talks that Henderson would still be in his consideration.
Southgate is keen for Henderson to get regular football this season, something which might not have been the case if he stayed at Liverpool.
Henderson's regular starting place at Anfield has become under threat following the signings of Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton and Dominik Szoboszlai from RB Leipzig this summer.
The Reds have also been linked with a host of other midfielders, and are expected to make an improved offer for Southampton's Romeo Lavia - after having a first bid of £37m knocked back.
Henderson is an important figure for Southgate, given his leadership qualities and as being one of the most experienced players in the dressing room.
He made his senior England debut in 2010, and has since featured in six major tournaments - winning 77 caps for his country.
