Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that Trent Alexander-Arnold will definitely miss the League Cup final against Chelsea, with Dominik Szoboszlai also unlikely to return in time.
The right-back was replaced at half-time in Liverpool’s victory over Burnley after aggravating a knee injury, while the Hungarian has missed the Reds’ last two outings after a recurrence of a hamstring setback.
And while the Hungarian faces an outside chance of being fit for the showpiece occasion at Wembley on February 25, Klopp confirmed that Alexander-Arnold won’t be fit to return until after the game.

“How serious? Yeah, again it’s a super intense period of the season. I think people think now about the final, which is absolutely fine,” the German said. “But before then we play Brentford and Luton.
“Clearly I didn’t think a second about the final yet but it’s, ‘Oh, he can’t play in the final!’ Yep, that’s one game. But before that we have two games. It is as bad that they cannot play.
“I think with Dom, it will be around that time. We will see how it exactly works. With Trent, maybe a week or two longer. It’s not great.
“Not sure Dom has a chance for the final, maybe. And Trent will probably be after.”
Alexander-Arnold and Szoboszlai had only returned from their original knee and hamstring injuries at the end of January, before their latest setbacks at the start of the month.
With the pair back on the sidelines, Klopp defended Liverpool’s medical department as he insisted that the club hadn’t forced either player back into action too early.
