Speaking to Prime Video Sport after netting a hat-trick against Stade de Reims, Paris Saint-Germain forward Kylian Mbappé (24) was reticent to address his turbulent summer, which saw him ostracised by the club.
Mbappé, in the wake of PSG’s crowning as Ligue 1 champions in June, sent a letter to the club, informing them that he would not be triggering the one-year extension at the club, meaning that he would be able to leave on a free in the summer of 2024. PSG’s reaction to Mbappé’s refusal was to omit him from the club’s tour of Japan and South Korea. In the meantime, he trained with the ‘undesirables’ and even missed the first game of the season before being reintegrated.
Whilst his long-term future is yet to be resolved, Mbappé has begun the season brightly, scoring 13 Ligue 1 goals in 11 games. His hat-trick against Will Still’s Reims means that he has six goals more than the second-highest scorer in Ligue 1, Akor Adams.
However, Mbappé, who has been absent from media duties in recent months in the wake of the transfer saga, did not want to address last summer’s events. “Have I come to terms with my summer? The most important thing is playing football, you (the media) do the rest well. I don’t want to talk about it and add fuel to the fire. I think there is already too much talk,” said Mbappé.
