Things don't get much easier for Mauricio Pochettino as he is still faced with a large of his Chelsea players being unavailable for selection. Having entered this period of games between international breaks with 11 sidelined there has been progress but it is still a waiting game for the coach.
Not only has he lost senior head and vice-captain Ben Chilwell for what is expected to be around two months there are consistent niggles to key players making individual form and tempo hard to come by. Chilwell himself had been in and out of the team before a hamstring problem picked up against Brighton last weekand now joins a growing group likely to be on the periphery of the squad until at least December.
«It is difficult. I am no doctor and I cannot tell you what you are asking me and I think it is about judging day by day and we cannot say the period he will be out,» Pochettino said ahead of the trip to Burnley. Chilwell is now alongside Romero Lavia and Christopher Nkunku in the longer-term injury camp whilst Wesley Fofana is undergoing rehabilitation for his own struggles.
Lavia had hoped to make his debut after the last international break but picked up an untimely ankle knock that has seen him miss every game so far this season. A return still seems a long way off too. «I don't believe. I cannot tell you but he is till not running. After the international break he will not be back,» Pochettino updated.
In the more pressing future, there are still nervy waits for Mykhailo Mudryk and Moises Caicedo. Both players were central to the 2-0 win over Fulham on Monday but suffered knocks of their own. Mudryk was substituted off at half time and Caicedo went down late on holding his knee.
