With Lyon’s transfer activity this summer being monitored by the DNCG – French football’s financial watchdog – the prospect of seeing the club’s more marketable players moving on has gained credence in the past few weeks.
The club’s homegrown talents – Rayan Cherki, Bradley Barcola, Castello Lukeba – have notably been the subject of interest from around Europe. According to L’Équipe this evening, the latter is now closing in on a move to RB Leipzig, with the two clubs set to agree on a €32m transfer fee, including bonuses.
The Bundesliga side have yet to formulate an official offer, and are first looking to wrap up the arrival of Belgian forward Loïs Openda from Lens. In any case, Lukeba has already agreed personal terms with the Germans.
The 20-year-old has been a mainstay of the Lyon defence for the past two campaigns, emerging as one of the league’s finest talents in spite of his formative club’s consecutive midtable finishes.
