Lionel Messi's MLS impact highlighted by double Apple admission

Lionel Messi will star in a new Apple TV+ documentary after he led Inter Miami to their first trophy this weekend.

The Barcelona legend made headlines across the globe when it was announced he would be moving to Manchester United icon David Beckham's franchise for the remainder of the MLS season. Since the World Cup winner's arrival in Florida, the Herons' fortunes have changed for the better.

Messi and Co. have yet to taste defeat during the mid-season break for the Leagues Cup and the Argentinian has been on fire. In just seven appearances, the diminutive forward has scored a whopping ten goals and has relished the pressure of captaincy.

He reached double figures for his new club at the weekend when he scored the opener against Nashville in the Leagues Cup final. Fafa Picault equalised for the Tennessee in the second half in what was a tight encounter. However, Miami would prevail thanks to a 10-9 penalty shootout success.

His popularity and fame has had a wider effect beyond the pitch. Recently, Apple CEO Tim Cook admitted the company's streaming site had smashed targets thanks to Messi's arrival in the MLS.

"We are excited about our MLS partnership, and we're thrilled to see Messi suiting up with Inter Miami," he said during the Silicon Valley firm's quarterly earnings call for the three months ending on July 1. "It's clearly in the early days, but we are beating our expectation in terms of subscribers, and the fact that Messi went to Inter Miami helped us out there a bit – and so we're very excited about it."
