Liverpool have received the third-highest cash sum in the Premier League from UEFA after last season's exploits in the Champions League.
In what will go down as Jurgen Klopp's last Champions League campaign with the Reds, Liverpool crashed out at the first knockout stage. In truth, Liverpool were unlucky to finish second in Group A after finishing level on points with Napoli but dropped into the runners-up position due to their head-to-head record with the Serie A club.
If that was unlucky, their fortune would only get worse when the draw was made for the knockouts. Klopp's team drew Real Madrid in the Round of 16 and were faced with an uphill challenge after the first leg which Los Blancos won 5-2 at Anfield.

A narrower clash would follow at the Bernabeu but a 1-0 defeat on the night saw Liverpool drop out of the competition with a whimper. UEFA have now announced how much money the Anfield club received in prize money for their exploits.
The Reds gained £71m from their European campaign. That was less than Chelsea, who received £81m, and eventual winners Manchester City, who earned a staggering £115m. Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur made £56m.
Liverpool's European prize money will greatly diminish this season after they failed to qualify for the Champions League and had to settle for Europa League football. Fortunately, the Reds are on the path to return to the pinnacle of continental football next season as they sit comfortably inside the top four.
