Bayer Leverkusen CEO Fernando Carro has insisted that Xabi Alonso will remain at his club until at least the end of his contract in 2026 despite Liverpool's interest.
Alonso was quickly installed as the favourite to replace Jurgen Klopp when the German announced he would be departing Anfield at the end of the season. After processing the news of Klopp's impending exit, many supporters moved to back Alonso for the job.
The 42-year-old has impressed in the Bundesliga with Leverkusen this season. Remarkably, Alonso's team have yet to taste defeat in the German top flight and look set to end Bayern Munich's monopoly on the division.

Reports have suggested that Alonso would be open to a return to Anfield at the end of the campaign. But as quoted by Fabrizio Romano, Carro is of the opinion that his manager will be remaining at the club.
He said: "Xabi Alonso has a contract until 2026 and there is no reason to doubt that he will stay here. In football you never know what will happen but I have a lot of trust, we have a good relationship."
Alonso is by no means the only manager to have been linked with the lucrative job. Brighton & Hove Albion's Roberto De Zerbi has received plenty of interest from Premier League clubs after a successful stint on the South Coast while Sporting's Ruben Amorim is also thought to be in the frame.
Owners FSG are in the process of searching for a new manager but it is not clear when they will name Klopp's successor.
