Liverpool icon tells Roy Keane to 'get a life' after the ex-Man United captain labelled Virgil van Dijk as 'arrogant'

Liverpool legend Phil Thompson has slammed Roy Keane, telling him to 'get a life' after the Sky Sports pundit labelled Virgil van Dijk as arrogant.

Van Dijk provoked a response from Keane after insisting Jurgen Klopp's side were the only team who played to win during their goalless draw on Sunday.

Manchester United legend Keane said the comments were arrogant and disrespectful, adding: 'He needs a reminder himself; he's playing for a club that have won the title once in 30-odd years.'

Thompson, who won 23 trophies at Liverpool between 1971 and 1984, has fired back at Keane - appearing to highlight an irony in the Sky Sports pundit calling Van Dijk arrogant.

He told talkSPORT: 'I don't think he (Van Dijk) was arrogant he was just giving his opinion. As Roy gives his opinion, as Gary (Neville) gives his opinion.

'It wasn't arrogant by any means. I would say it was more frustration.

'I really feel as though, you’ve come off that game, you know you’ve dominated, Manchester United have had that one chance with [Rasmus] Hojlund, and you’ve just felt frustration. Arrogance wasn’t in it.'

He added: 'And for Roy Keane to be talking about arrogance in people… come on, do me a favour.

“And I love Roy but I played that back and he just kept repeating the word. Roy, just get a life.'

Van Dijk also responded to Keane's comments on Sunday, insisting there was honesty but no arrogance - after Liverpool had 34 shots but failed to score for the first time since April.
