Liverpool star Virgil van Dijk has given his verdict on the Premier League title race with Arsenal and Manchester City competing with the Reds at the top of the table. Jurgen Klopp's side are just a single point behind the Gunners, with City six points behind the league leaders.
Pep Guardiola's side have a game in hand on those above them after they became Club World Cup champions this week. City are currently fifth in the table, with Tottenham and Aston Villa completing the top four along with Arsenal and Liverpool.
The Gunners were able to maintain their position at the top of the table after taking a crucial point in the 1-1 draw against Jurgen Klopp's side at Anfield. Gabriel Magalhaes' header opened the scoring for the visitors, before Mohamed Salah equalised for Liverpool.
Martin Odegaard was lucky not to be penalised for handling the ball inside the penalty box as VAR opted against awarding the Reds a penalty kick. Trent Alexander-Arnold struck the crossbar late in the second half as Liverpool failed to take all three points and return to the top of the table.
Van Dijk was full of praise for the Gunners following the draw as he offered his own insight into the title race. “City are a very good team as well, but Arsenal will be up there, we hope to be up there — we will really push them," the Dutch defender said.
Gabriel highlighted just how intense the game at Anfield was, with Arsenal heading into Christmas as the happier side. “It was a really intense game, it's so hard to play here against a big team," the Brazilian defender said.
