Liverpool receive boost in pursuit of top manager target Xabi Alonso
Liverpool have identified Bayer Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso as their number one managerial target.
The Reds are set to lose Jurgen Klopp at the end of the season and they are looking at options to take over at Anfield.
Former Reds midfielder Alonso, who has taken Bundesliga team Bayer Leverkusen from relegation battle to the top of the league, is Liverpool’s preferred choice to succeed Klopp.

German giants Bayern Munich, who were also targeting Alonso, have now shifted their focus on Italian manager Antonio Conte.

Despite not having a job since leaving Tottenham a year ago, the former Chelsea manager has a track record of winning trophies.
He has previously won league titles with Chelsea, Inter Milan, and Juventus. Though talks with the Italian, who left Tottenham bitterly, have not been smooth, Conte is still highly regarded and was supposedly called by Bayern a few months ago.
Thomas Tuchel is set to leave the Munich club at the end of the season and they want a new manager who can take charge of the club.
Conte could help Liverpool appoint Alonso
Conte would have the opportunity to rule over another significant European league if he moved to Germany.
Additionally, he would get to reunite Harry Kane and Eric Dier again; both of them transferred to Bayern during the past year. Kane flourished when he was coached by Conte.
