Liverpool have shown an interest in signing Crystal Palace defensive midfielder Cheick Doucouré (23), according to a report from RMC Sport.
The 23-year-old Malian midfielder is touted as a possible replacement for Fabinho, who left Anfield for PIF-funded Saudi Arabian club Al-Ittihad. However, the outlet understands that Doucouré’s potential transfer to Jürgen Klopp’s side has not significantly advanced in the last few days. RMC Sport adds that Liverpool are yet to submit a concrete offer to acquire the services of the former Racing Club de Lens defensive midfielder, with a move said to be at a standstill.
Liverpool are overseeing a complete midfield overhaul during this summer transfer window. Fabinho, club captain Jordan Henderson, Naby Keïta, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and James Milner all left the Premier League side. The Reds brought in defensive midfielder Wataru Endo from Stuttgart as well as Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai respectively from Brighton and RB Leipzig. RMC Sport adds that Liverpool will look to bring a fourth midfield arrival and that Crystal Palace FC have slapped a price tag on Doucouré that falls above the €60m mark. Liverpool have only now five days to revive the deal for Doucouré before the end of the transfer window on Friday, September 1st.
