Liverpool have been told they should consider Atalanta manager Gian Piero Gasperini as Jurgen Klopp's replacement at the end of this season.
Klopp will depart Anfield at the end of the season after declaring he had run out of energy for the role in January. The debate as to who will replace the German has since raged on.
Xabi Alonso was the favourite among the fans to be Klopp's successor, but he confirmed in a press conference recently that he is committed to Bayer Leverkusen. Sporting Lisbon boss Ruben Amorim is now being touted with the impending vacancy but Serie A expert James Horncastle believes the man who masterminded the Reds' downfall on Thursday night should not be overlooked.

He told TNT Sports: "They have normalised the extraordinary because they have had big results like this before. They have come here to Anfield and won in Covid when their own fans weren’t here and I think that is why it is particularly special tonight [Thursday].
"They have been to Amsterdam and beaten Ajax, they came within seconds of knocking PSG out of the Champions League and reaching the Champions League semi-finals. The only reason they didn’t do that is because they used all their subs, sustained an injury and were down to ten men and PSG scored twice in stoppage time.
"There is a big vacancy here in the summer and that guy Gian Piero Gasperini doesn’t get talked about. Over eight years he has probably punched above his weight for his resources. I think he should be in the conversation for more of these jobs.
