Ballymena United 0 Loughgall 1
Ballymena United manager Jim Ervin
Nathaniel Ferris’ headed goal just after the hour mark made it three wins out of three for Loughgall over Ballymena United this season and condemned United to a third straight defeat.
The goal came from a right wing cross by Pablo Andrade and Ferris, who had a constant tussle with the home defenders all afternoon, got to the ball first to head down and in past Sean O’Neill. It was enough to move Loughgall up to seventh place in the Premiership table.
Yet Ballymena had more than their fair share of chances to go in front by that stage with Johnny McMurray the villain in front of goal on no fewer than three occasions.
First, he met a Ryan Waide cross at full stretch but could only poke the ball wide and in the closing minutes of the first half he first of all miskicked and then still had time and space to shoot from 10 yards but missed the target.
At the start of the second half he finally forced Berraat Turker into a save, with his left boot, but it was Loughgall who came closest to getting the second goal of the game, when former Sky Blue Jordan Gibson’s shot was headed off the line by Waide.
With the board showing five minutes of stoppage time, Calvin McCurry seemingly had the goal at his mercy but he shot wide and Ballymena drew another blank.
