Originally built in the 17th century, it is a Grade I listed mansion that sprawls across eight acres of countryside. From the moment we entered the gates, we felt a bit like we were in a fairy tale.
Wet and dreary February weather beat against the car as we wound our way down the stunning home's long driveway, almost expecting to see some wild animals. Once we arrived and saw the hotel up close, we were blown away by its grandeur and began to feel like we had stepped back in time.
A warm welcome awaited us as we stepped inside the impressive manor and as we headed upstairs to our suite, we quickly felt the memories of one of the country's most powerful families, whose home this once was. The décor was of that time, but without feeling dusty or dated.
We were in for a treat with a traditional four-poster bed and while we enjoyed that our room was period-style, there are also modern rooms in the contemporary wing if that's more your thing.
At the hotel's Brasserie later, there was plenty of choice in the menu. Though I opted for a cheeseburger, because the heart wants what it wants.
