Manchester City goalkeeper, Ederson, is set to be out of action for about a month due to an injury he sustained during the match against Liverpool. It will see him miss the clash against Arsenal at the end of March.
During the 1-1 draw at Anfield on Sunday, the Brazilian injured himself while trying to prevent Darwin Nunez from reaching a backpass from Nathan Ake, giving away a penalty in the process. Despite attempting to continue playing, he had to leave the field a few minutes later, with Stefan Ortega stepping in as his replacement.
Tests have revealed that Ederson will need around three to four weeks to recover, which means he'll likely miss the important match against Arsenal on March, 31. He is unlikely to have played against Newcastle in the FA Cup this weekend anyway, but the league games against Arsenal, Aston Villa and Wolves might come too soon for him.
The first leg of the Champions League quarter-final is scheduled for April 9/10. City are currently third in the league now, with Arsenal top.
While this is certainly disappointing news for City, manager Pep Guardiola can take comfort in knowing that Ortega is more than capable of filling in. The German has earned a reputation as the club's best backup goalkeeper in recent years and is always eager for the chance to prove himself on the pitch, reports the Manchester Evening News.
Ortega did a great job in goal for Manchester City when Ederson couldn't play on Sunday at Anfield. He's going to play more games now and show everyone how good he is.
