His goal against Sheffield United on Thursday evening took his combined tally of strikes and assists for the season to 30 in all competitions, already nine better than he managed in the entirety of his maiden campaign in England.
This trajectory matches that of his time with previous club Benfica, where he notched 38 goal contributions before his big move to Anfield in the summer of 2022. It was what Liverpool supporters had hoped for and have therefore let their appreciation be known of the Uruguayan, though they are not the only ones.

Brighton's Evan Ferguson has proven that the striker's union in the Premier League as strong, as Nunez was singled out by the Ireland international amongst a crop of elite global attacking talent.
Speaking to ESPN, the 19-year-old was tasked with crafting his 'ultimate striker' by hand picking traits of different past or present attackers in football. He was asked for eight selections in total.
First up he named Nunez without hesitation for his movement. Following on for speed he opted for Paris Saint-Germain's Kylian Mbappe, former Chelsea man Didier Drogba was selected for his heading and England captain Harry Kane was chosen for his finishing ability.
