Gooey Liverpool bakery that's forced to close just hours after opening

Everybody should treat themselves once in a while. If you are partial to sweet and sugary foods, I would really recommend Gooey on Bold Street.

The brand was originally Manchester-based, before opening a kiosk next to Albert's Schloss in December 2023.

The unique thing about Gooey is that once it runs out of cookies and donuts that are on display, the shop closes. As the website states, it is open from 12-6, “or earlier if sold out”.

So, in theory, if you were to head down at around 2.00pm, when Gooey has been open for three hours, there’s a chance you’ll leave empty handed. If you're eager to get a treat from the bakery, you need to be fast.

This unique way of selling treats meant that, on my visit at 12.30pm, I had to time it right if I wanted to get the goods. Upon entering the Bold Street store, I was told by the cashier that I had, in fact, picked “the perfect time” to drop by.

At only half an hour after opening time, there was still plenty of stock on offer. If I had left it too late, there was a chance I would miss out, as the store has been known to shut fairly early due to high demand, leaving other eager shoppers disappointed.

I was able to get all the choices I had on my list (requested by fellow colleagues) without any issue. That included red velvet cookies, white chocolate cookies, kinderella donuts (a delightful mix of kinder and nutella, which was a filling as you could imagine) and even a cheesecake donut.

I went for the deal of eight for £25. That price might raise some eyebrows, but that works out at just over three pounds per item - and given the size, I’d say
