Luis Diaz has issued an emotional response to Liverpool teammate Diogo Jota holding up his shirt after scoring against Nottingham Forest.
Tragedy hit Diaz after his parents were kidnapped in Colombia and he was not in the Liverpool squad for their 3-0 win over Forest on Sunday.
Starting in his place, Jota opened the scoring after latching onto the rebound of Darwin Nunez's shot that Matt Turner saved.
Immediately, the Portugal international raced to the bench at Anfield and held aloft a Diaz shirt to show his support for his teammate.
In response to the heartfelt gesture, Diaz conveyed his appreciation for his teammate's support on social media.
Liverpool shared the snap of Jota's celebration on social media, and Diaz responded with a love heart and raised hands emoji.
Ahead of kick-off, Jurgen Klopp admitted that the winger was missing from the squad.
He said: “It’s a worrying situation for all of us and it was a pretty tough night.
“I have never had that before. It’s a new experience I never needed."
Liverpool also posted a statement after reports broke early on Saturday morning.
The club's statement read: "Liverpool Football Club can confirm it is aware of an ongoing situation involving the family of Luis Diaz in Colombia.
«It is our fervent hope that the matter is resolved safely and at the earliest possible opportunity. In the meantime, the player's welfare will continue to be our immediate priority.»
While conflicting reports have emerged over his father's safety, Diaz's mother has since been returned.
Colombia president Gustavo Petro said: “In an operation in Barrancas, Luis Diaz’s mother has been rescued, we continue the search for the father.”
