Luton are weighing up a £5million bid for Ryan Giles with Middlesbrough also interested in the Wolves academy product.
Giles impressed on loan at Boro last season, helping Michael Carrick’s side reach the Championship play-offs, and has now attracted the attention of newly-promoted Luton.
Hatters boss Rob Edwards knows Giles well from his time working as a coach within the Wolves system, where Giles learned his trade.
Last season’s spell at Boro was Giles’ seventh since he turned professional five years ago and he has made just one appearance for the Wolves first team, an FA Cup tie at Shrewsbury in January 2019.
Giles was part of Julen Lopetegui’s squad for Wolves’ pre-season training camp in Portugal with the coaching staff as the Spaniard assesses whether the 23-year-old – who can play anywhere on the left flank - could be part of his plans this term.
Even if a final decision has not been made on that, Mail Sport both Luton and Boro are confident there is a deal to be done for Giles.
Meanwhile, Wolves are hoping to clinch their first signing of the summer by bringing back Matt Doherty to Molineux on a free transfer.
Doherty was a key part of Nuno Espirito Santo’s team that were promoted from the Championship in 2018 and quickly established themselves as a Premier League club, reaching the FA Cup semi-finals and Europa League quarter-finals.
A £15m switch to Tottenham in 2020 did not produce the expected results, and Doherty also made little impact during a brief spell at Atletico Madrid during the second half of last term.
With Wolves looking mainly at loans, free transfers and players in the £8-15m bracket this summer, the move for Doherty is a sensible option.
