Premier League action returns this weekend after a short break, and it couldn’t have served up a more enticing tie for us to sink our teeth back into. Liverpool make the trip up the East Lancs Road to take on Manchester City at the Etihad, in a game that could go a long way in defining how the rest of the season unfolds for both teams.
While the Reds are still in with a chance of qualifying for next year’s Champions League, City are dreaming of overturning the current points difference between them and Arsenal at the top of the table.
City know that their only chance of claiming a third successive Premier League will likely rest on them hitting the ground running after the latest international break. More than any other before it, this season has been hampered by international disruption, thanks, in large part, to the World Cup across November and December.

City will look back on their form when returning to club action and hope that they can replicate a similar level of consistency.
The first break, towards the end of September, saw City bid farewell to Premier League pressures by dispatching Wolves 3-0 away from home. By the time October rolled around, the emphatic nature in which the Blues blew away the cobwebs couldn’t have been more daunting for the rest of the league.
A hat-trick from both Erling Haaland and Phil Foden in the first game back saw City decimate the old enemy of United 6-3. This was then followed up by emphatic results against FC Copenhagen and Southampton.
