The tone of Manchester City chairman Khaldoon al-Mubarak in the club’s 2022/23 financial statement was one of triumph and celebration.
On the back of a treble-winning campaign, City posted record breaking numbers, seeing their revenue leap forward by £100m to £712.8m from £613m for the previous 12-month period. The club’s profit also almost doubled, from £41.7m in 2021/22 to £80.4m for 2022/23.
It was helped in no small part by the increase in broadcast money from their run to the final, and subsequent victory in the Champions League final, as well as the Premier League’s improved TV deal overseas. But it was heavily influenced by the record £309.5m in commercial revenues that the club was able to deliver, up £32m year on year.

Speaking as part of the financial report accompanying the results, al-Mubarak said: “In the aftermath of the UEFA Champions League win in Turkey and the completion of ‘The Treble’ the question I was asked most often was ‘How do you top that?’
“The answer is by doubling down on the proven philosophies and practices that have brought us this success and to challenge ourselves to continue to constantly innovate in order to achieve new levels of performance both on and off the field.
