Man City secure 4-1 win over Brighton but boss Taylor 'frustrated' with win

Manchester City kept the heat on leaders Chelsea with a thumping 4-1 victory at Brighton yesterday.

Since City last played in the league, they had been eliminated from the League Cup by Chelsea and the FA Cup on penalties by Tottenham.

But Gareth Taylor’s side bounced back with Lauren Hemp, Mary Fowler, Khadija Shaw and Laura Coombs finding the net.

Former City player Lee Geum-min pulled one back for Brighton in stoppage time — much to Taylor’s annoyance, with City trailing Chelsea on goal difference.

‘We said at half-time we wanted the scoreline to be more than the two we had and we did that,’ he revealed. ‘But I was frustrated with the goal we gave away at the end.’

Liverpool maintained the pressure on fourth-placed Manchester United with a home win over West Ham.

Goals from Leanne Kiernan, Missy Bo Kearns and Sophie Roman Haug put the Reds in control before Riko Ueki’s late consolation made it 3-1.

Manchester United’s Lisa Naalsund continued her positive form, scoring twice to see off Bristol City 2-0 at Leigh Sports Village.

Naalsund’s opener came in the ninth minute, but United struggled to capitalise on their early lead.

A second yellow card for the visitors’ Jamie Lee-Napier in the 82nd minute gave United a boost and Naalsund wrapped up the victory late on.

Tottenham beat Leicester 1-0, with Matilda Vinberg scoring the only goal on her first start for Spurs.

Aston Villa survived a late Everton fightback to bag a 2-1 victory at Walton Park Hall.
