Manchester United fans may struggle to remember the last time a January transfer window was as quiet as this one.
A year ago, the Reds scrambled for reinforcements to join their team. Similarly to this winter, money was tight and loan recruits ended up being the solution in the form of Wout Weghorst and Marcel Sabitzer.
Perhaps learning from their mistakes, United set their stall out for this window in December. Club officials stressed this market was not optimal for them and they would not be making any big moves. But unlike last season, the Reds are struggling with their current squad and new players seem to be the only solution to turn this ship around between now and May. United may not be able to make big signings in January but that does not stop them from getting their ducks in a row for the summer. One player they must keep their eye on is Ivan Toney
Should the Brentford striker keep up the form he showed against Nottingham Forest on Saturday evening, he should be at the top of United's radar come the end of the season. A proven goalscorer at this level and a player who may well be on the move come the summer.
Stuttgart's Serhou Guirassy will also be worth keeping tabs on in the second half of the campaign. A bigger gamble than Toney, the Guinean forward has been lethal in the Bundesliga and could be a handy addition.
