Antony was Manchester United's most expensive signing in 2022 as they sought to build a squad capable of competing with the very best under Erik ten Hag.
The Dutch coach had worked with the Brazilian winger at Ajax and a reunion was seen as a move that could help the Red Devils close the gap to neighbours Manchester City and lay down a serious Premier League title challenge for the first time since legendary former manager Alex Ferguson retired in 2013.
Things have not quite worked out in England, though. Antony won the Carabao Cup as United enjoyed a promising first season under Ten Hag, but 2023/24 has been far more difficult on the pitch and the FA Cup is their only realistic chance of silverware.
Antony has struggled badly for form, too, while he has also taken time away from the club to respond to serious allegations made by a former girlfriend, which the player strongly denies.
His time in Manchester has prompted great scrutiny on the fact United were willing to pay an enormous sum to sign him in the first place.

Manchester United signed Antony on August 30, 2022 for an initial fee of €95 million ($95.2m). The total fee could rise to €100m ($100.3m) in add-ons.
The Brazilian's transfer fee was an Eredivisie record and made him the Red Devils' second-most expensive signing, ahead of Harry Maguire but behind Paul Pogba.
Antony was handed a contract running until 2027 at Old Trafford with the option for an extra year.
