In an interview on the Obi One Podcast, hosted by John Obi Mikel, Eden Hazard was asked about his thoughts on Cristiano Ronaldo’s comments on the quality of Ligue 1.
Speaking at the Globe Soccer Awards, the former Manchester United attacker claimed the Saudi Pro League was of a higher standard than Ligue 1: “The Saudi League is not worse than Ligue 1 – it is actually more competitive than Ligue 1, I can say that after spending one year there. We are better than the French league now.”
Hazard, who played in Ligue 1 with Lille, was asked about the comments and if he agreed with the Portugal international. The former Chelsea winger said, “I don’t agree with him. I’m sure if a Ligue 1 team played against a Saudi Arabian team, they would win. Maybe not easily, like people might think, but the level in France is good.”
Hazard is no stranger to Ligue 1 and it’s quality. The former Belgian international spent 5 years with Lille from 2007 – 2012. The 33-year-old was pivotal in Les Dogues’ title win in 2011, becoming the youngest player to ever win the Ligue 1 Player of the Year award in the process.
