Kylian Mbappe 'agrees huge pay cut' after signing contract amid Arsenal intervention

Kylian Mbappe has reportedly agreed a pay cut to join Real Madrid. The French footballer, who currently earns around £22million each year at Paris Saint-Germain, is set to see his salary drop by up to £10million if he moves to the Spanish capital.

The World Cup winner is reported to have agreed a five-year contract with Real Madrid, having told PSG that he plans to leave when his contract ends at the close of this season. Spanish reports suggest Mbappe's new deal will be worth between £12m and £17m, plus bonuses. Despite taking a pay cut, Mbappe will still become Madrid's highest-paid player.

Mbappe won't be left out of pocket though, as he'll receive a whopping £85m signing-on fee. However, Real Madrid didn't view the deal as one they should make at any cost. The progress of players like Jude Bellingham and Vinicius Junior has given the club confidence that they already have two of the world's best players.

News of Mbappe's impending departure broke last week, and he started on the bench for PSG's match against Nantes. The 25-year-old came onto the pitch with half an hour left and earned a penalty when he skillfully knocked the ball through Douglas Augusto's legs before being clipped in the box. He confidently dispatched the penalty into the corner, helping PSG secure a 2-0 win.

PSG don't want to lose their star player who has scored 244 goals in 291 games and made 105 assists. But they are resigned to his exit, while Arsenal have also been linked with an interest.

La Liga's boss, Javier Tebas, said that Real Madrid have a better chance now of getting the player. He told Italian news: «I said [the chances] were around 50 per cent some weeks ago, now it's even more. 55-60? Yes, I think so.
