Jose Mourinho made three-word Chelsea rule to try and save my career
Eden Hazard has admitted Antonio Conte brought the best out of him during his playing career — but he did not enjoy working under the Italian.
Hazard worked under various managers during his time at Stamford Bridge, including Jose Mourinho, Rafa Benitez, Maurizio Sarri, Roberto Di Matteo and Guus Hiddink, but has named Conte as the individual who elevated his performance levels most.
Conte spent two seasons in charge of the team and won the Premier League in his first year, followed by the FA Cup in his second. Hazard scored 17 goals and provided seven assists in 2016/17 and a further 30 goal contributions the next campaign while operating under the 54-year-old.
While Conte was the person Hazard believes maximised his potential, the Belgian did not enjoy his meticulous training sessions and extreme attention to detail.
«I think my best time at Chelsea was with Antonio Conte,» the ex-Chelsea winger said. Countering this by explaining why he did not enjoy the majority of the manager's methods, Hazard continued: «Not at all. You know why? All the week bad training. I was going out Saturday, I need to enjoy a little bit because I know the day after is going to be back on the training ground and tactics. I have to do something, it's my only 90 minutes I can enjoy. You remember him, stopping, tactics, 'no we have to do that'. Saturday was the best day for me.»
Hazard also opened up on his experience of Mourinho's second spell at Stamford Bridge, admitting he has the utmost respect for the Portuguese despite the sour ending of his eventual exit in 2015.
