Linda Pizzuti has implied Liverpool should have been awarded a penalty in the dying embers of their 1-1 draw with Manchester City on Sunday afternoon.
The Reds were denied what appeared a certain spot-kick after Jeremy Doku made contact with Alexis Mac Allister's chest, misjudging the flight of the ball and making stud-first contact with the Argentine midfielder.
Referee Michael Oliver decided against punishing Doku and the subsequent VAR check that took place also deemed the incident unworthy of being an offence.
Jurgen Klopp expressed his disbelief at this decision when speaking after the full-time whistle, saying: “Yeah (I think it was a penalty) but whatever I think now will not change that. I tried to explain to your colleague (referencing a previous post-match interview). He said, ‘Yeah but we have a high bar with VAR'. He was not surprised it wasn’t a penalty. There’s always an explanation. I think everyone in this room thinks if he whistles a penalty, it is not a scandal. He hits him on the chest. Yes, he touches the ball before. Does that make any difference on any position of the pitch if your leg is that high? You can kick the ball before, after that the foot is here and you go off."
Also of the opinion Liverpool were hard done by as a result of this call was wife of FSG chief John Henry, Pizzuti, who responded to an Instagram comment about the incident by saying: "Looked like a penalty..."
