Manchester City 'reach agreement with Nathan Ake over a new long-term deal' with the Dutchman set to be rewarded with a pay rise after helping Pep Guardiola's side achieve the Treble
Nathan Ake is reportedly close to signing a new long-term contract at Manchester City.
The Dutchman is coming off his best season at the Etihad yet, making 41 appearances in all competitions as they secured a historic Treble.
Ake has two-years left on his contract, though the reigning Premier Champions are keen to tie down the 28-year-old's future at the club.
Fabrizio Romano has reported that the club have reached an agreement with Ake and that a new deal is set to be completed in the next few days.
He claims that a verbal agreement has been reached after talks earlier this week, with a new long term deal in place which will see an increase to his current salary.
Ake has made 81 appearances in all competitions for Man City, since he completed a £40m move from Bournemouth in the summer of 2020.
The Dutch international took time to settle to life at the Etihad, making just 24 Premier League appearances across his first two seasons.
Last season though he saw his game time increased as Pep Guardiola often deployed him as a left-back.
Ake has given City an injury scare ahead of the new campaign, after he hobbled off during their pre-season clash with Bayern Munich on Wednesday.
He lasted just 30 minutes in City's 2-1 win over the Bundesliga champions in Japan, after breaking down following an innocuous collision with Bayern's Kingsley Coman.
Any injury to Ake could push the club to conclude a deal for Croatian defender Josko Gvardiol.
It was thought they were close to bringing the RB Leipzig centre-back to the Etihad in club record £90m deal, but the German's club chief said earlier this week that no agreement was in place between the two clubs.
