Manchester United won the Junior Section in 2022
Seven-time Premier section winners Manchester United have signed up for this summer’s SuperCupNI.
The Premier League club are long term supporters of the tournament once known as the Milk Cup, dating back to 1991 when David Beckham captained the famous ‘class of 92’ to victory. Their most recent Premier section success came in 2014, when Marcus Rashford inspired United to victory against French side Vendee.
Although United have featured in the Junior Section and Elite section, this is the first team they have played in the Premier Section (U16) in a decade.
SuperCupNI chairperson Victor Leonard said: “Our friendship with Manchester United dates right back to when Bertie Peacock first encouraged Sir Alex Ferguson to send a team to the tournament and since then we have witnessed some of the future stars at Old Trafford star at the tournament.
“I know from the conversations we have with Academy Director Nick Cox and his colleague, Academy Player Liaison Officer, Dave Bushell how integral the tournament is to the club as they look to provide the best possible opportunities and experiences for the next generation of stars at the club.
“The Premier section this summer will be hotly contested and we are incredibly excited at the high quality entrants we have secured.”
Manchester United will be joined in the Premier section by Skouted - the brainchild of former Manchester United academy star Febian Brandy – as well as American clubs Inter CT FC hail from Connecticut and Northeast Rush.
The 2024 tournament will take place from 21st to 26th July, with the traditional parade and opening ceremony kicking off proceedings on 21st July and the tournament will close with finals day on
