Manchester United enjoyed the perfect start to their US tour thanks to a 2-0 victory over Arsenal at the MetLife Stadium.
United looked far sharper than the Gunners in the first 45 minutes. Erik ten Hag's men took the lead on the half-hour mark when a long Tom Heaton ball picked out Kobbie Mainoo.
The youngster laid the ball off to Bruno Fernandes whose fierce strike beat Aaron Ramsdale, albeit the Arsenal goalkeeper should have done better.
Seven minutes later it was two when another long ball was not cleared by Gabriel. Jadon Sancho capitalised and fired home to make it 2-0. United changed all their outfield players at the break and coupled with Arsenal's changes the game fizzled out in the second 45 without incident.
Post-match, the two teams took part in an exhibition penalty shootout which United won 5-3.
Elsewhere, the Reds will continue their pursuit of Atalanta's Rasmus Hojlund as they look to strengthen their forward line. Ten Hag said before the Arsenal game that United will do everything they can to sign a forward but the clock is ticking before the start of the season.

United are reportedly not willing to spend any more than £60m to bring Hojlund to the club.
Atalanta boss Gian Piero Gasperini recently said he thinks the young forward is worth as much as €100m, though it seems the two clubs are way apart in their valuations of Hojlund if the report by Football Insider is to be believed.
