Marcus Rashford and Paul Pogba both reportedly declined the captain's armband at Manchester United.
Former boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer spoke to The Athletic during the week about his time at Old Trafford.
He revealed that he knew his spell as manager was going to draw to a close at half-time in his final match, a 4-1 defeat to Watford.
Solskjaer also spoke on how he was 'disappointed' to see two of his United stars turn down the offer of becoming club captain.
The Norwegian did not wish to name names, but The Sun have reported that they were Rashford and Pogba.
A source to the outlet said: “Pogba was offered it but said he wanted to leave the club so turned it down.
“Rashford was also asked to take the captaincy but he said he didn’t think he was ready for it.”
Antonio Valencia was United captain when Solskjaer took charge in 2018 before Ashley Young and Harry Maguire took on the role.
Pogba, who left for Juventus yet again in 2022, wore the armband 11 times during his time at the Red Devils.
On the other hand, Rashford has been captain just once, despite his longevity at the club.
Bruno Fernandes is the current occupier of the prestigious role as he took over from Maguire in the summer.
He also proved key for United on Saturday night as he scored the winner in their 1-0 victory over Burnley.
