Manchester United have opened talks with Getafe over a second loan move for Mason Greenwood.
Greenwood, 22, joined the Spanish club on a season-long loan last September and has gone on to make 32 appearances, scoring 10 goals and registering six assists in the process. Getafe are keen to extend his stay, with the forward under contract at United until June 2025.
In February 2023, Greenwood had charges of attempted rape, engaging in controlling and coercive behaviour, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm - all of which he denied - dropped by the Crown Prosecution Service. Following a six-month-long internal investigation, United decided that it was best for their academy graduate to continue his career away from Old Trafford.
Greenwood's loan spell will come to an end this month after Getafe finish their La Liga campaign, but according to the Athletic, they want him again next season. Chiefs at the Estadio Coliseum are said to be pleased with the 22-year-old's impact since arriving in Spain, although are unlikely to make an effort to sign him permanently.
Getafe negotiated a 20 per cent sell-on fee as part of their original deal with United, who notably have the option to extend Greenwood's contract until 2026. The Red Devils' preference would be a permanent sale but they're open to another loan if their asking price isn't met.
Should United choose to loan Greenwood for 2024-25, they'd likely trigger his extension clause to avoid losing him on a free. Co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe said back in February that the club would make a "fresh decision" on Greenwood's future, as many of the decision-makers behind his initial loan are no longer at the club, such as CEO Richard Arnold.
