Massive injury update emerges ahead of Arsenal vs Brentford as star returns to training
Bryan Mbeumo has returned to Brentford training ahead of his side's Premier League clash against Arsenal. The Cameroon international picked up a serious ankle injury in December during the defeat to Brighton which resulted in him missing the Africa Cup of Nations.
Prior to his injury, Mbuemo had become his club's talisman in the absence of Ivan Toney with seven goals to his name from 15 Premier League appearances. Yoane Wissa has also been absent for a period of the season with injury issues and international commitments, however he has returned in recent weeks and his sublime overhead kick against Chelsea this past weekend was a clear reminder of his ability.
Arsenal transfer target Toney also returned to action back in January after serving an eight-month ban for betting offences. And with Mbuemo now nearing a return, Thomas Frank could have Wissa, Toney and Neal Maupay all available for the first time this season.
While his return could arrive as a huge boost, the Bees are dealing with a significant injury crisis in defence. Left-back Rico Henry has been joined by Aaron Hickey, Ethan Pinnock and Ben Mee, the remaining three members of Frank's first-choice back four, in recent weeks as long-term absentees.
Injury issues in defence have also significantly affected Arsenal this season, with Oleksandr Zinchenko and Takehirom Tomiyasu still out, however two fresh concerns in attack will be of concern to Mikel Arteta. Both Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli left the 6-0 win over Sheffield United due to injuries, with the Arsenal boss offering an update after the game.
