The January transfer window is fast approaching as we approach the conclusion of 2023. And for Chelsea, while it is not expected to be a mega busy window, there is still expected to be some movement at Stamford Bridge, football.london understands.
The priority for Chelsea in terms of incomings is a centre-forward. But the Blues will not rush their pursuit of a striker and if the right one is not available for whatever reason during the mid-season window, then they will wait until the summer.
Chelsea, though, are considering making an offer for Ivan Toney when the January window opens. The Brentford striker is due back from his eight-month ban in the new year and is keen on finding a new club.
Toney has changed agents in order to force through a move away from the Bees, with Chelsea and Arsenal two of the clubs with a keen interest in the 27-year-old striker. Likewise, Chelsea also hold an interest in Victor Osimhen, one of the most in-demand strikers in world football right now.
Osimhen had an unbelievable 2022/23 season for Napoli but the Italian club were determined to keep hold of him in the summer and rejected multiple offers. There is a suggestion that the Naples-based club will operate with a similar stance in January.
Nicolas Jackson, though, is still very highly rated at the club. But senior officials believe adding a new striker for more competition will improve Jackson in the long-term and there will not be an over-reliance on the 22-year-old to score goals.
