Mauricio Pochettino two stars away from dream Chelsea XI as first 10 games send transfer message
It has been a mixed start to Mauricio Pochettino's reign at Chelsea. There is certainly no doubt about that.
Ten games into the Premier League season with the Blues, and he has led them to 11th place in the table, with 13 goals scored, 11 conceded, three wins, three defeats and four draws. There has been plenty of signs of encouragement under the new head coach, though, while there has also been some familiar and unwanted problems returning to Stamford Bridge.
For all of the encouragement with some extremely talented young players – namely Cole Palmer – Chelsea have suffered with the same problems in front of goal. There have been four occasions already this term where the Blues have failed to find the back of the net in a match.
These problems were prominent under the likes of Graham Potter and Frank Lampard last season and despite spending around £1billion since Todd Boehly took over the club, some issues are glaringly obvious. While Nicolas Jackson has shown some promise, it is quite clear he is not ready to be the No.9 Chelsea so desperately crave.
Jackson, who is only 22-years-old, still has plenty of time to develop into a world-class striker. While Pochettino clearly rates Jackson, it is also clear that the Argentine does not fully trust the striker just yet and that was obvious by his decision to leave the Senegal international out of the side that drew with Arsenal recently.
Likewise with Armando Broja. The Albanian international has plenty of promise but his circumstances are different. Broja is coming back from a serious knee injury and recently suffered a setback, meaning he is once again out of action.
