US Soccer star Megan Rapinoe did her best to laugh off the injury in the final match of her stellar career.
The 38-year-old believes she tore her Achilles during the National Women’s Soccer League Championship final on Saturday night.
She was substituted just six minutes in as her side OL Reign lost 2-1 to Gotham FC.
Rapinoe was clearly devastated and expressed he dejection post-match.
«For sure, I tore my Achilles,» she said.
The soccer ace then joked: «I mean, f***ing yeeted my Achilles in the sixth minute in my last game ever in the literal championship game.
»I guess I just rode until the wheels came right off! Now I'm just a NARP, a normal-ass regular person, having to do rehab which is f***ing devastating.
«You gotta find the silver lining and the dark humor, and that's just who I am as well.
»That's life; it's part of the game. I was feeling really good before the game, wasn't feeling tight or wasn't having calf issues or anything. You don't always get to have the perfect ending."
She added: «I'm not a religious person or anything and if there was a God, this is proof that there isn't. This is f***ed up.»
Rapinoe, who won the NWSL Shield three times but never the league, ended her illustrious career by managing four goals and recording five assists in 15 games in 2023.
The star retired from the US women's national team after 203 appearances for her country, where she netted 63 times.
Despite not being able to get her hands on a first-ever NWSL title, the 2019 Ballon d'Or Feminin winner reflected on her career.
