Benjamin Mendy was cleared of sex offences, ending a three-year court process. The player, who would have faced a lengthy jail term if convicted, had previously being cleared in January of six counts of rape and one of sexual assault following a six-month trial.
Manchester City decided to part ways with the 29-year-old and not pay him his wages during the sex offences trial. The Sky Blues acted as if he was not part of the squad both morally and financially.
The French defender decided to start a new adventure at Ligue 1 club Lorient to restart his professional career as a footballer after being acquitted. Not only that, but he has also denounced his former team for not paying him his respective salaries in one of the worst periods of his life.
According to reports in England, Mendy has filed a multi-million pound lawsuit to reclaim his money. His legal representative Nick De Marco KC released a statement to make the lawsuit official and public.
"Manchester City FC failed to pay Mr Mendy any wages at all from September 2021, following Mr Mendy being charged with various offence all of which he was subsequently acquitted of, until the end of his contract in June 2023. The claim will come before an Employment Tribunal."
