Soccer and sports have stories with unexpected scripts of promises that reach the top but also of those that for some reason fail to stay there, and Argentinian right-back Jos Luis Gomez is one of them as he now drives Uber's.

He lives a harsh reality, far removed from the one he envisioned after being a starter with Argentina at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games and a year later being called up to the senior national team to play alongside Lionel Messi.

The joy after making his debut with the Albiceleste in 2017 in afriendly match against Brazil turned into an ordeal after tearing the meniscus of his left knee. It was an injury that affected his confidence, which left him out of the team for theRussia 2018 World Cup.

From there began his struggles, with his career nearing its end and according to information from the newspaper Ole, he now drives an Uber.

«We have always been a humble family,» Jose Luis Gomez's father said to Ole. «After training, he goes out to work with the car in the afternoon. Sometimes more at night.»

Luis Gomez had been tipped in 2016 to become the future right back of Argentina, even local media commented at the time that he was followed by Barcelona. As a Racing youth player, he arrived at Lanus that same year and won theSuperliga, Copa Bicentenario and the Supercopa Argentina.

After dropping down and joining Lanus after going through injury and attitude problems, Racing opened the doors for him to return at the beginning of 2022 and his contract expires in December.

He has not been called up to the first team or for the reserve team, so he works with a physical trainer waiting for some offer to come up so that, at 30 years old, he can continue with his career.
