After much anticipation, Atlus finally announced the release date for Metaphor ReFantazio during a recent livestream. The upcoming JRPG from the Persona 5 developer is set to launch on October 11, 2024, across most modern gaming platforms. It marks the first new IP in a while from the studio behind the MegaTen franchise, so fans have ample reason to look forward to this new adventure.
Boasting a brand-new story and a fantasy world, players will explore a kingdom teeming with unrest and strife as the populace fights in a deadly tournament for the throne after the king's passing. Simultaneously, the protagonist must seek a way to lift a curse placed upon the prince by traveling across the realm.
Alongside a brand-new trailer, it was revealed that the game will be available on PC, PS4, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S platforms. In other words, Nintendo Switch and Xbox One players will miss out. No official reason for this decision was mentioned. If we have to speculate, the Xbox One's lack of popularity among the Japanese audience over the past two generations could explain its omission.
As for the hybrid Nintendo console, perhaps the arrival of the next-gen Nintendo Switch 2 is something the developers are anticipating. Neither a word on pricing nor performance metrics was mentioned, and we can likely expect these as we approach the game's launch. What we do know, however, concerns the various editions of Metaphor ReFantazio.
For starters, physical pre-orders for the game have gone live. However western pre-orders and digital copy pre-orders will be announced later. The game has no varied packages except a limited Collector's Edition. Players will also receive pre-order bonuses for pre-purchasing the game before its launch on October
