The law will look to create safe spaces for girls and women in sports
The 'Jenni Hermoso Law' was proposed before the Mexican Senate by Josefina Vazquez Mota.
The legislation bears the name of the Tuzas del Pachucasoccer player due to the recent case in which then president of the Spanish Football Federation, Luis Rubiales, kissed her without her consent after winning the Women's World Cup.
The law consists of establishing safe spaces in sports for girls and women in Mexico. During the presentation, a shocking fact was mentioned: 7 out of 10 girls leave sports due to gender violence. Aggression and sexual harassment are recurring situations in women's sports.
Hermoso is one of the most decorated players in women's soccer. She was recently nominated for best player of the year. Her performance was essential for Spain to be crowned world champion for the first time.
She finished second in the league scoring table, only behind her teammate Charlyn Corral. The Mexican finished with 20 goals, while Hermoso scored 18 in the 17 games she played in Liga MX Femenil. The Madrid native will now extend her influence in Mexico both on and off the pitch.
The former RFEF president faces legal charges for sexual assault and coercion. On Friday, September 15, he will appear in court in Spain to give his version of events. On Sunday, September 10, he tendered his resignation, stating that he did so because he was not allowed to work.
