Mikel Arteta and Owen Hargreaves agree on the one Arsenal player that was 'unplayable' vs Forest

Gabriel Martinelli has been showered with praise by Owen Hargreaves following Arsenal's 2-1 victory over Nottingham Forest.

Goals from Eddie Nketiah and Bukayo Saka secured the three points for the north Londoners but it was arguably Martinelli that was the most impressive of the Gunners' front three. The Brazilian international caused plenty of problems down the north Londoners' left-hand side, constantly taking players on whilst also contributing defensively.

The 22-year-old wasn't afraid to track back, making a number of recoveries after his side lost possession. Ex-Manchester United and Bayern Munich midfielder Hargreaves was one of many pundits impressed by the young winger, hailing him after the full-time whistle.

“He was absolutely unplayable, offensively and defensively,” the former England international told Premier League Productions when speaking about Martinelli. “But it’s interesting that Mikel talks about training performances.

“He said ‘he trained like a beast and that’s why he plays’. You have to train well. But if you play well and score goals, then you stay in the side.

“So, I say, if he trains well again, then he will start again.” As Hargreaves mentioned, Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta was also not afraid to heap praise on Martinelli after the match.

The Spaniard voiced his admiration for the youngster's energy, saying: «That’s Gabi — he needs to be alive, he needs to be energetic, he needs to take chances and go for it. Something I really liked today [against Forest] and that I didn’t like too much two weeks ago, was that he was going to give the ball away, and he tracked back, because this was the defining moment.
