But alongside its signature onion loaf, the steakhouse always serves a lettuce wedge with its meals. Merseyside has a a number of Miller and Carter restaurants, including one at the Albert Dock, Otterspool, Aughton, Cheshire Oaks and Ainsdale.
Your server will offer a wedge of lettuce before your steak arrives at the table and there's a clever reason why. Explaining why the appetiser is always placed on your table, a Miller and Carter spokesperson posted a "wedgucation" on its social media pages.

They said: "What is the role of our wedge? The wedge is ‘a refreshing appetiser which perfectly compliments the rich flavours of our steak’. When the Wedge is served? Three mins prior to steak arriving, as the steak is resting.
"How should it be served? Triple layered, with a polished steak knife. The wedge provides a cold crisp texture to accompany our steak."
According to the food chain, the lettuce also helps our digestive system break down heavy proteins and carbohydrates, and is ideal for anyone who suffers from bloating after a meal, the MEN reports.
Reacting to the “wedgucation” on Facebook, it is clear diners are big fans of the leafy snack, with one person writing: “Always polished off before my steak arrives...yummy.”
Erika said: “So there is a specific reason for the wedge! This is making me want to go back even more so!” Tagging someone in the comments, Jessica wrote: “So now we know."
While Emily said it “makes perfect sense now.” Also tagging a friend, Jake said: “Well there we go. Our question is answered.”
