Morgan Gibbs-White says Nottingham Forest’s ability to contain Manchester United on the counter-attack contributed to their 2-1 win over Erik ten Hag’s side.
Gibbs-White fired home on 82 minutes after being teed up by former United player Anthony Elanga after Marcus Rashford cancelled out Nicolas Dominguez’s strike four minutes earlier.
The Forest midfielder said his team knew United were dangerous on the break and made sure the visitors could not utilise that threat. “Credit to the players and the manager for sticking to the way we wanted to play,” Gibbs-White told Sky Sports.

"We know United's counter-attack was always going to be a threat and I think we dealt with that in the first half. In the second half we wanted to go for the game and that left us vulnerable at times. But I thought the boys were excellent and we fully deserved the three points.”
Gibbs-White went on to describe how he felt invited to shoot after seeing United defenders dropping off towards the edge of the box. He later told Match of the Day what manager Nuno Espirito Santo told him and his teammates at half-time.
"At half-time the manager said we needed to be more aggressive with and without the ball. We fully deserved the three points. My goal? I am delighted to help the boys get the three points. I saw the space was there, stayed composed, breathed, and picked my spot. Thankfully it went in."
United have now lost nine of their 20 Premier League matches and remain nine points off a top-four spot.
