Arsenal are back at the top of the Premier League table after returning to winning ways in the league this weekend.
The Gunners were looking to bounce back from what has been a difficult week when they travelled to the midlands to take on Wolves at Molineux in Saturday’s late kick-off. In the last seven days, Mikel Arteta’s side had endured defeats against Aston Villa and Bayern Munich in both the Premier League and Champions League.
That may have prompted a few nerves ahead of the game against Wolves. They would have been settled just before half-time, when Leandro Trossard sliced an effort past Jose Sa and into the back of the net.
Arsenal had to wait until added time in the second half to seal a huge three points in the race for the title. Captain Martin Odegaard finished off a team move from a tight angle to put his side 2-0 up.
The win moves the Gunners one point above rivals Manchester City and three points above Liverpool in the Premier League table, although both teams have a game in hand. The implications of the game in the title race mean that several of the national media were in attendance, and below is what they made of the performance and result.
Peter Lansley of the Guardian wrote: “Arsenal fans suffering from accusations of a typical late-season collapse can refer their critics to this resilient victory after their team managed a sixth consecutive clean sheet on their league travels for the first time in their long and illustrious history to return to the top of the Premier League.
