According to L’Équipe, Nabil Fekir (30) is likely to leave Real Betis at the end of the season with the La Liga club forced to sell their captain.
The former Lyon attacking midfielder has had a torrid time with injuries in the last two years at Betis and the club see this as the right time to part ways. The Seville-based club are experiencing financial difficulties with €90m worth of debt mounting over the club. As a result, Betis are forced to sell one of their stars this summer and the 30-year-old looks the most likely candidate.
Betis are set to command a fee of between €15m – €20m for the French international, according to L’Équipe. Fekir is not against leaving La Liga and if he is to be on the move, he would prefer a move to Saudi Arabia, the French publication reports. The former Lyon captain was the subject of Saudi interest in January but no move materialised for the Betis midfielder.
The return to form of former Real Madrid midfielder Isco has not helped Fekir’s cause at Betis. Isco has been impressive under Manuel Pellegrini and the former Manchester City manager does not believe that he and Fekir are compatible together within the same team. This means that the sale of the 30-year-old makes sense for the composition of the squad and the financial instability of the club.
