FC Nantes have been heavily sanctioned for Saturday’s pyrotechnic display against RC Strasbourg Alsace. The club’s major ultras group, the Brigade Loire, celebrated their 25-year anniversary during the 3-1 loss against Les Alsaciens and marked it with flares and fireworks throughout the encounter, with over 200 pyrotechnics set off.
The punishment for the display? A full stadium ban for Les Canaris’ next home match against Olympique Lyonnais, on Sunday 7th April. The Loire stand will also be closed for the first two matches after the full stadium ban. With only three games at the Beaujoire between now and the end of the season, it means that the stand in which the ultras are situated, will not be open between now and the end of the season.

It is a blow for Nantes and their fans as they look to battle for their place in Ligue 1. Les Canaris are currently 16th in the French top flight and therefore occupy the relegation play-off spot. Antoine Kombouaré replaced Jocelyn Gourvennec this week in order to spark a revival at the club.
In the wake of the announcement, Nantes announced that they would contest the LFP’s ruling.
