Newcastle United have made a contract offer to Monaco defender Axel Disasi (25), according to Foot Mercato. The Magpies have now reportedly initiated discussions with AS Monaco for the centre-back.
L’Équipe reported in June that Disasi was close to signing for Manchester United. However, Foot Mercato report that whilst the Red Devils have also shown interest, they appear focused on finalising a deal for an attacker before turning their attention to Disasi.
Meanwhile, Newcastle have accelerated their efforts to sign Disasi. Eddie Howe’s side have presented a contract offer to the defender, who is currently under contract with Monaco until June 2025. The remaining hurdle is reaching an agreement with Monaco, who reportedly expect a fee exceeding €40 million to part ways with their French international. Talks between the two clubs have already commenced.
The former Reims and Paris FC defender moved to Monaco in August 2020, and last season made his debut for Les Bleus. He played 38 times in Ligue 1 for Les Monegasques, scoring three goals and providing three assists as a defender.
